Aim
To study the shift in equilibrium between ferric and thiocyanate ions, and between [Co(H₂O)₆]²⁺ and chloride ions, by changing the concentration of either ion.
Blood red ferric thiocyanate deepening and fading as ions are added or taken away, and cobalt chloride turning pink and blue with water, acid, heat and ice.
What you'll explore
- Iron and thiocyanate More of either ion, a deeper red; Q against K.
- Cobalt and chloride Pink with water, blue with acid and heat.
Who it's for
Class 11 chemistry, for CBSE, ICSE and State boards. It follows the practical in your textbook: shifting an equilibrium with le chatelier's principle.
Practical guide
Chemical Equilibrium Practical Class 11: Procedure, Viva: procedure, observation table, worked calculation, precautions and viva answers.
